Why These Ingredients Matter
| Ingredient | Why |
|---|---|
| Vitamin C | An essential antioxidant that also supports normal immune function, collagen formation, and the production of certain neurotransmitters and L-carnitine1 |
| Vitamin D3 | Helps the body absorb calcium and supports normal bone, muscle, and immune function2 |
| B Vitamins | Thiamin (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), B6, folate (B9), B12, biotin (B7), and pantothenic acid (B5) participate in numerous metabolic processes, including helping the body convert food into usable energy3 |
| Calcium | Best known for its structural role in bones and teeth, calcium is also needed for normal muscle contraction, nerve transmission, and blood-vessel function4 |
| Magnesium | Required for hundreds of enzyme systems involved in functions including energy production, muscle and nerve function, and normal heart rhythm5 |
| Zinc | An essential mineral involved in immune function, protein and DNA synthesis, wound healing, and normal cell division6 |
| Manganese | Functions as a component of several enzymes involved in metabolism and antioxidant defense and contributes to normal bone formation7 |
| ViNitrox™ | A proprietary combination of grape and apple polyphenols. In a randomized, placebo-controlled crossover trial, ViNitrox supplementation was associated with increased endurance during high-intensity cycling exercise8 |
| AstraGin® | A proprietary combination of Astragalus membranaceus and Panax notoginseng root extracts developed for use in nutritional formulations |
| Astaxanthin | A carotenoid produced by microalgae with antioxidant activity that has been studied for its potential effects on oxidative stress, inflammation, cardiovascular health, and exercise9 |
| L-Citrulline | An amino acid that increases the availability of L-arginine, which the body uses to produce nitric oxide. Nitric oxide plays an important role in normal blood-vessel function and circulation10 |
| Beetroot Extract | Naturally provides compounds including nitrate, which can be converted through the nitrate-nitrite-nitric oxide pathway. Beetroot supplementation has been studied for its effects on vascular function and exercise performance11 |
| L-Carnitine | Plays an essential role in transporting long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria, where they can be used in energy production12 |
| Taurine | An amino-sulfonic acid naturally found in the body that participates in several physiological processes. Human research has examined taurine supplementation for its effects on blood pressure and other measures of cardiovascular function13 |
| Citicoline | Provides choline and cytidine after ingestion. Choline is used to produce acetylcholine and phospholipids important to neuronal cell membranes, and citicoline has been studied for its role in memory and cognitive function14 |
| Citrin®K | A branded Garcinia cambogia fruit extract providing hydroxycitric acid (HCA). Garcinia/HCA has been studied for effects on body weight, although results have been modest and inconsistent15 |
| uC3® Clear | A turmeric extract complex providing curcuminoids, plant compounds studied for their effects on antioxidant and inflammatory pathways. Curcumin absorption varies considerably depending upon formulation16 |
| Saberry® | A standardized Indian gooseberry (amla) fruit extract. Amla contains numerous phytochemicals and has been studied in human trials for effects on blood lipids and other cardiovascular risk factors, although results should be interpreted cautiously17 |
| Pine Bark Extract | A source of polyphenolic compounds that has been studied for antioxidant and cardiovascular effects. A recent meta-analysis of randomized trials found effects on several cardiometabolic risk factors, although the strength of the evidence varied by outcome18 |

Why We Carry It
VitalSTART™ combines beetroot and other botanical ingredients with amino acids, vitamins, and minerals in a convenient drink mix designed for everyday wellness and an active lifestyle. Beetroot provides naturally occurring dietary nitrates, while ingredients such as L-citrulline and L-carnitine participate in physiological pathways involved in nitric oxide availability and cellular energy metabolism. Other botanical ingredients contribute a range of naturally occurring phytochemicals. Rather than relying on caffeine for stimulation, VitalSTART™ approaches energy and performance support through nutrition.10,11,12
Why I Recommend It
My husband and I have taken VitalSTART™ for years. Its nutritional profile is remarkable for a single serving of powder, and it is one of those products that tastes great no matter how much water we mix it with. I prefer to put it in my quart water bottle and sip on it all morning, while Darryl mixes his in a 16-ounce glass and drinks it in one sitting.
Beetroot has received a great deal of attention for its naturally occurring nitrates and their relationship to nitric oxide production, circulation, and exercise performance. VitalSTART goes well beyond beetroot, though. Its combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and botanical extracts makes it one of the products I don’t want to be without as part of my daily supplementation, even though it contains a small amount of L-carnitine. Research on several of those individual ingredients gives me additional reasons for including it in my own routine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Product Questions
Does VitalSTART contain caffeine? No. VitalSTART does not contain caffeine or other stimulant-based energy ingredients. That makes it an option for people who want nutritional support for an active lifestyle without the caffeine, jitters, or crash associated with many energy products. The manufacturer specifically identifies VitalSTART as caffeine-free.
When should I take VitalSTART? The manufacturer recommends taking VitalSTART daily, either in the morning or about 30 minutes before a workout. Mix one stick pack with 6 ounces of cold water. The label recommends no more than two servings per day.
Can I mix VitalSTART with more than 6 ounces of water? The manufacturer’s directions specify 6 ounces of cold water, but I frequently mix mine into a quart of water and sip it throughout the morning. Darryl prefers his in a 16-ounce glass. Using more water makes the flavor less concentrated; it doesn’t change the amount of VitalSTART in the stick pack. The manufacturer recommends not mixing it with other juices.
Why does VitalSTART contain beetroot? Beetroot is a natural source of dietary nitrate. The body can convert dietary nitrate through the nitrate-nitrite-nitric oxide pathway, and nitric oxide plays an important role in blood-vessel function and circulation. This is one reason beetroot has received considerable research attention in both cardiovascular and exercise nutrition.
Is VitalSTART an energy drink? I wouldn’t describe it as a conventional energy drink. It contains nutrients involved in normal energy metabolism, along with amino acids and botanical extracts, but it doesn’t rely on caffeine for stimulation. Youngevity describes it as providing nutritional support for energy, performance, endurance, and vitality.
