Why We Carry It

Lavender has such a strong association with relaxation and bedtime that it would be easy to dismiss it as simply tradition or good marketing. We wanted more than that. Human research has examined lavender aromatherapy in relation to sleep quality, relaxation, and even measurable changes in sleeping brain activity.1,2,3,4

We also like that Youngevity kept this formula simple. Rather than building another complicated essential oil blend, it pairs Lavender Maillette with Roman Chamomile in a 1% jojoba dilution. Lavender and Roman Chamomile have even been included together in human aromatherapy research examining anxiety and sleep quality.5 That gives this roller a clear place in our Sleep & Relaxation collection: a familiar, lavender-centered option for people who want an easy aromatic part of their evening routine without having to measure or dilute essential oils themselves.

Why I Recommend It

If you think lavender as aromatherapy for relaxation and sleep is hogwash, I understand the skepticism. I might have been right there with you until a visit to a lavender farm in England changed the way I thought about it. The farm shop was full of lavender everything: dried lavender, lavender for cooking, lavender seeds, and soaps (so many soaps!). And, of course, everything smelled of lavender. By the time we left, we smelled of lavender (our clothes still smelled like it when we got back). There were plenty of tourists milling around, but what struck me was how quiet the shop was. We had visited a pottery just a few days earlier that was about the same size and had roughly the same number of tourists, and the difference in noise level was dramatic. Everyone in that shop seemed so remarkably chill that I started wondering whether they were selling another type of “plant” that you might find in a U.S. dispensary.

Then I noticed what was happening with me. My shoulders were sitting a little lower. My breathing was slower. I didn’t have the same urgency to hurry through the store. That experience certainly wasn’t a scientific experiment, but it made me curious about lavender, and lavender has been on my relaxation list ever since.

What I especially appreciate now is that lavender’s reputation isn’t based only on anecdotes like mine. Researchers have studied lavender aroma during sleep, including a small, blinded pilot study that measured EEG activity while participants were sleeping, and randomized clinical research continues to investigate its effects on sleep quality.2,3 That doesn’t mean this particular roller has been clinically proven to make you sleep, but it gives me a solid reason to take lavender aromatherapy seriously.

I also like this particular roller because it doesn’t overcomplicate things. It’s Lavender Maillette and Roman Chamomile, already diluted to 1% in jojoba. For someone who wants to make aroma part of the transition from a busy day toward bedtime, that’s about as easy as it gets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Product Questions

Is this roller intended only for bedtime? No. Although we carry it in our Sleep & Relaxation collection, Youngevity recommends using it as needed, so it can also be used when you simply want lavender-and-chamomile aromatherapy as part of a calming routine.

Why is this roller diluted to only 1%? Essential oils are highly concentrated. A 1% dilution provides a gentle way to use lavender and Roman Chamomile topically while still enjoying their aroma, without having to dilute the oils yourself.

Isn’t lavender in practically every relaxation product ever made? It does seem to have cornered the market. In lavender’s defense, at least it brought some research with it.
