Our Curated Standard
We favor whole-food and plant-based nutrition whenever practical, while recognizing that some nutrients are best delivered through thoughtfully formulated supplements. Every product we carry is evaluated for its ingredients, formulation, and how well it aligns with our standards before we recommend it.
Why These Ingredients Matter
| Ingredient | Why |
|---|---|
| Tangerine | Human inhalation research has examined tangerine essential oil’s effects on brain-wave activity and sleep onset, with results varying according to the concentration tested1 |
| Sweet Orange | Sweet orange aroma has been studied in humans for its effects during anxiety-provoking situations, with findings supporting its potential role in relaxation-oriented aromatherapy2 |
| Ylang Ylang | In a human topical study, ylang ylang was associated with lower blood pressure and participants reporting greater calm and relaxation compared with the control group3 |
| German Blue Chamomile | Clinical research on Matricaria chamomilla has examined its effects on sleep. A systematic review and meta-analysis found improvement in some measures of sleep quality, while other sleep measures did not improve.4 |
| Rosa damascena | Damask rose aromatherapy has been studied in randomized clinical trials examining anxiety, stress and sleep quality. A recent systematic review and meta-analysis reported improvements in pooled outcomes for anxiety, stress and sleep quality, although results varied substantially across the included studies.5 |
| Pink Grapefruit | Adds a fresh, bright citrus note that helps distinguish this blend from more traditional lavender-centered nighttime aromas |

Why We Carry It
Sometimes wellness isn’t only about what we take internally. We chose To Be At Peace™ because it offers something different from the more familiar lavender-centered approach to relaxation aromatherapy. Its combination of tangerine, sweet orange and pink grapefruit gives the blend a brighter citrus character, balanced by ylang ylang, German blue chamomile and Damask rose.
More importantly, several of the individual oils in this Nature Direct™ blend have been examined in human research related to relaxation, calming or sleep. The studies did not test To Be At Peace™ itself, but we appreciate having meaningful research behind several of the ingredients rather than relying only on traditional use or marketing claims.
The 10% pre-diluted roller format also made sense for our collection. There’s no measuring, mixing or separate carrier oil needed, and the small roller bottle makes aromatherapy easy to incorporate into an evening routine at home or while traveling.
Why I Recommend It
When essential oils started becoming more mainstream about 15 years ago, I looked at them with a pretty critical eye. It wasn’t until I began using essential oil blends during seasonal allergy season and found them genuinely helpful for me that I became convinced there might be something worth paying attention to. And when I thought about it, using fragrance with intention really wasn’t such a foreign idea. We light a candle or simmer potpourri to make a home feel cozy. We wear perfume or cologne because we like the impression a pleasant scent creates. There are even bathroom products designed to use essential oils to create a scented barrier in the toilet bowl before…well, you know. Fragrance has always affected how we experience our surroundings.
Since then, essential oils have found a place in my own life in several ways. I use them in a diffuser simply because I enjoy a good-smelling house. At other times I use specific aromas when I’m not feeling my best physically. My massage therapist uses essential oils at my request for both aromatherapy and topical application.
For relaxation, I enjoy citrus scents when I want to take a deep breath and unwind. The combination of chamomile, citrus, ylang ylang (pronounced “lang-lang”), and Damask rose in To Be At Peace™ is one of the reasons this particular blend caught my attention. I like it as a brighter alternative for that transition between a busy day and settling down for the evening.

Frequently Asked Questions
Product Questions
Is To Be At Peace™ a sleep product? We include it in our Sleep collection because several of its individual essential oils have been studied in research related to relaxation or sleep. We think of the finished blend primarily as an aromatherapy option for relaxation and nighttime wind-down rather than as a product that promises to make you sleep.
Does it smell like lavender? No. To Be At Peace™ does not contain lavender. Tangerine, sweet orange and pink grapefruit give it a brighter citrus component, balanced by ylang ylang, German blue chamomile and Damask rose.
Do I need to dilute it before using it? The roller is already formulated as a 10% essential oil blend in jojoba oil and is intended for topical use. Follow the manufacturer’s directions, and dilute further when using on children.
Does “To Be At Peace” seem like a lot to ask from one little roller bottle? Maybe a little. But “To Be Slightly Less Frazzled” probably wasn’t going to fit on the label.
