Our Curated Standard

We favor whole-food and plant-based nutrition whenever practical, while recognizing that some nutrients are best delivered through thoughtfully formulated supplements. Every product we carry is evaluated for its ingredients, formulation, and how well it aligns with our standards before we recommend it.

Why These Ingredients Matter

Ingredient Why
Vitamin C Vitamin C is an essential nutrient with important roles in normal immune function and antioxidant protection. Each stick provides 1,000 mg, a dose at which research has found a reduction in the severity of common-cold symptoms.1
Zinc Zinc is essential for normal immune function. Each stick provides 15 mg. Research suggests zinc supplementation may shorten the duration of the common cold, while a clinical study using 1,000 mg vitamin C plus 10 mg zinc found quicker relief from some cold symptoms than placebo.2,3
Organic Acerola Fruit Acerola naturally contains vitamin C along with polyphenols and other phytochemicals. Its inclusion adds some of the broader plant compounds that naturally accompany nutrients in foods rather than relying on isolated vitamin C alone.4
Bilberry + Black Currant + Elderberry These deeply pigmented berries contain anthocyanins and other polyphenols, broadening the variety of plant compounds in the formula and contributing to its plant-derived antioxidant profile.5
Beet Juice Extract + Quercetin Beet adds another plant-derived source of antioxidant compounds, while quercetin is a naturally occurring flavonoid found in many fruits and vegetables. Here, their role is best understood as part of the formula’s broader botanical profile rather than as individually dosed therapeutic ingredients.

Why We Carry It

Vitamin C supplements aren’t hard to find. What makes Vitali-C Plus different is what comes along with it. Vitali-C Plus starts with substantial vitamin C and zinc, then surrounds those isolated nutrients with a broader array of compounds derived from fruits and plants. Each stick provides 1,000 mg of vitamin C and 15 mg of zinc, along with a 147 mg blend of organic acerola fruit, beet juice extract, bilberry, black currant, elderberry and quercetin. The formula is sweetened with stevia rather than added sugar.

Research has found that vitamin C can reduce the severity of common-cold symptoms and that zinc may shorten cold duration. A clinical study using the two together (1,000 mg vitamin C plus 10 mg zinc) also found quicker relief from some cold symptoms than placebo.1,2,3 The two nutrients also have complementary roles in normal immune function.

We also like that Vitali-C Plus doesn’t stop with vitamin C and zinc. Its fruit and botanical blend brings a wider variety of plant compounds into the formula. It isn’t the same as eating whole fruit, nor is the relatively small proprietary blend intended to provide large individual servings of six different botanicals. But that broader nutritional approach makes Vitali-C Plus a much better fit with the whole-food philosophy behind LiquidWholeFood than a conventional vitamin C drink mix.

Why I Recommend It

I wasn’t looking for another way to get 1,000 mg of vitamin C. Those were everywhere. Vitamin C was not exactly playing hard to get. What frustrated me was that the leading fizzy vitamin-C products bore very little resemblance to the whole-food nutritional philosophy I wanted. When I looked at Vitali-C Plus, I saw something different. I could get 1,000 mg of vitamin C along with 15 mg of zinc, but I was also getting acerola fruit, beet juice extract, bilberry, black currant, elderberry and quercetin. And instead of the added sugar I found in the leading fizzy competitor, Vitali-C Plus is sweetened with stevia. It was simply much closer to the kind of nutritional supplementation I was looking for.

I’ve taken Vitali-C Plus for years when I feel a cold coming on, and I also reach for it when I’ve been around people who are sick and feel that my immune system has been challenged. That’s my personal use of it, not a claim that taking Vitali-C Plus will prevent a cold. My husband uses it differently: he takes it every day with his Body Balance because he likes having vitamin C and zinc as part of the broader plant-based nutritional supplementation he gets each day. For me, that’s the real appeal of Vitali-C Plus. It gives me the vitamin C and zinc I was looking for without abandoning the food-and-plant approach that made me interested in nutrition in the first place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Product Questions

When is the best time to take Vitali-C Plus? The manufacturer’s directions don’t specify a particular time of day. Because each stick mixes with just 4–6 oz. of water, it’s easy to fit into your routine at home or away.

Does Vitali-C Plus have to be taken with food? The manufacturer’s directions do not require it to be taken with food. If vitamin C or zinc tends to bother your stomach, you may prefer taking it with or after a meal.

Do I really need directions for mixing a packet into water? Probably not, but we’ve all had days when “add water and stir” was about all we could do.

Why are the amounts of the individual fruit and plant ingredients not listed? Acerola, beet juice extract, bilberry, black currant, elderberry and quercetin are part of a 147 mg proprietary blend. The label lists the total amount of the blend rather than the amount of each individual ingredient.

How does Vitali-C Plus taste? It is a mixed-berry flavored drink mix sweetened with stevia. Because taste is subjective, we don’t try to tell you whether you’ll think it’s delicious, even though we do.
