Our Curated Standard
We favor whole-food and plant-based nutrition whenever practical, while recognizing that some nutrients are best delivered through thoughtfully formulated supplements. Every product we carry is evaluated for its ingredients, formulation, and how well it aligns with our standards before we recommend it.
Why These Ingredients Matter
| Ingredient | Why |
|---|---|
| Chaste Tree Berry | Chasteberry (Vitex agnus-castus) has a long history of use in women’s health and is the best-studied herb in this formula. Clinical research has focused particularly on premenstrual symptoms and cyclical breast discomfort, while research also suggests that Vitex can influence prolactin through dopaminergic mechanisms.1,2,3 |
| Ashwagandha Root | Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an adaptogenic herb studied for several aspects of women’s well-being. Clinical studies using standardized root extracts have reported improvements in female sexual function, and newer research has investigated its potential role during menopause.4,5,6 |
| Wild Yam Root | Wild yam (Dioscorea villosa) is traditionally included in women’s herbal formulas. Laboratory research has identified biologically active compounds in wild yam, but good human evidence for hormonal or menopausal benefits remains limited.7 |
| Licorice Root | Licorice contains several biologically active plant compounds. Laboratory research has found that different licorice constituents can interact with estrogen receptors in different ways, although those findings do not establish a specific hormonal effect from this formula in people.8 |
| Turmeric Root | Turmeric provides naturally occurring curcuminoids, including curcumin. In one randomized trial, supplemental curcumin reduced hot-flash frequency in postmenopausal women, although it did not significantly improve overall menopausal symptoms, anxiety, or sexual function. Because this formula contains turmeric root rather than the studied curcumin supplement, the research is best viewed as background on the ingredient rather than evidence of an equivalent effect.9 |

Why We Carry It
Good Herbs Female Hormonal Support fills a specific role in our women’s-health selection: it offers a traditional botanical approach in a convenient liquid formula rather than trying to provide isolated hormones or hormone-like compounds. Its five-herb blend brings together botanicals with different histories and levels of research, with chaste tree berry having particularly useful clinical evidence for some PMS-related symptoms and ashwagandha having emerging research in women’s sexual and menopausal health. We carry it as a botanical option for women who prefer that approach and understand that herbal support and medical hormone treatment are not the same thing.
Why I Recommend It
Thankfully, women’s health and hormones have become less taboo and have been given more of the attention they deserve in medicine and clinical research over the last 20 years. Women’s concerns are taken more seriously by their healthcare providers, and gone are the days when going “all natural” to help with hormonal symptoms necessarily meant going to someone you weren’t sure was reputable.
I was very, very happy to see Good Herbs address this subject with a liquid extract of five herbs commonly associated with women’s health, several of which have also been the subject of clinical research. I also appreciate their recognition that women today are busy. Taking 1/2 teaspoon twice a day is certainly more convenient than preparing herbal teas morning and night. I like herbal tea, but I don’t necessarily want another hobby. For someone who wants these herbs as part of her wellness routine, this is an economical and efficient way to take them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Product Questions
Are there any important cautions with these herbs? Yes. Herbal products can interact with medications and may not be appropriate for every health condition. Chasteberry may be inappropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding and warrants particular caution with hormone-sensitive conditions. Ashwagandha also should be avoided during pregnancy and may interact with thyroid, blood-pressure, diabetes, sedative, immune-suppressing, and other medications. Licorice can affect blood pressure and potassium levels, particularly with significant or prolonged exposure. If any of these concerns apply to you, check with your healthcare professional before using this formula.
What age or stage of life is Female Hormonal Support intended for? The formula is designed as general herbal support for women’s hormonal wellness rather than for one narrowly defined age group. Several of its ingredients have been studied in connection with PMS, sexual health, perimenopause, or menopause, although the strength of the evidence varies considerably by herb.
Is this a hormone replacement product? No. Female Hormonal Support is an herbal supplement containing chaste tree berry, wild yam, ashwagandha, licorice, and turmeric. It does not contain prescription estrogen or progesterone.
Twice a day? What if I’m not great at routines? Oh, I feel your pain. “I’ll definitely remember” isn’t my organizational system, either. Put the bottle somewhere obvious (and maybe unexpected) until it becomes a habit, set reminders on your phone, write it on your paper calendar, or tie it to something you already do, like breakfast and supper. Whatever works. Just get it in you.
