I know a woman who, save four inches, could be an honest-to-goodness model. And I mean, she's got everything: the hair, the skin, the exotic face, a small build that's lean but not bony, legs that don't quit and look like healthy pencils. Everyone who knows her finds her striking.
We tend to dislike models for all the usual reasons: they get attention, they wear great clothes, they make a lot of money, etc. We also know that eating disorders are rampant in the modeling world, and thanks to confirmation from Ugly Betty, we know that most people in that industry are really mean or simply too self-absorbed to care. (Please, no mail from the 1% of people in this industry who aren't this way. I said "most", not all.)
The thing is, Hannah isn't a model. She wants to be a wife and mother. She doesn't really think about herself a whole lot, and when she does, her family lets her know. Her husband adores her, and she adores him. And no one wants to be like her, as charming as she is.
Let me tell you why. It's because everyone who knows Hannah is appropriately preoccupied trying to live life and get along and raise children and pay the bills. She's real, and we're also real, so she doesn't seem to be like those ladies we see in commercials or magazines. Here's the best part: she likes to eat. Maybe we all want to be like her in that respect.
